Cupolex Ecodome: The Smarter, Greener Way to Build Foundations

Published: 30 May 2025

Cupolex Ecodome is fast becoming the foundation solution of choice for builders, architects, and specifiers across New Zealand. Designed for both residential and commercial applications, this innovative system replaces traditional polystyrene in raft slabs with a modular, dome-based system made from 100% recycled polypropylene.

Cupolex Ecodome not only supports faster construction, but significantly reduces a slabs environmental impact – two important features in a sector under pressure to improve sustainability and efficiency.

Locally made with BRANZ and CodeMark certifications (BRANZ-1221, CM-1026), Cupolex Ecodome offers a strong and lightweight alternative to polystyrene pods. The dome design naturally creates an under-slab void ,this void also results in better thermal insulation performance and can be configured to meet H1 energy efficiency standards under the Building Code.

From a construction perspective, Ecodome is simple and fast to install. Domes interlock together to form a continuous formation that is laid out quickly – no heavy lifting equipment needed. This modularity streamlines the build process, saving time and labour costs on site. Less concrete is typically required compared to traditional raft slabs, reducing overall material usage and CO₂ emissions.

Ecodome is can be used with any certified concrete throughout NZ. Once cured, the resulting slab is strong, stable and resistant to shrinkage cracking.

Ecodome is suitable for a wide range of soil conditions and can be installed by any Licensed Building Practitioner, with training available for those new to the system. It’s already being used successfully throughout New Zealand, with designers and builders appreciating both the environmental benefits and practical advantages of the system.

With growing demand for greener building solutions and smarter, faster construction methods, Cupolex Ecodome stands out as a smarter, sustainable alternative.
