Improving Inter-Tenancy Wall Performance

Published: 19 March 2026

Inter-tenancy wall construction requires careful attention to both acoustic performance and compliance. As higher-density housing becomes more common, the materials specified within separating walls play an increasingly important role in delivering occupant comfort and meeting regulatory expectations.

Knauf Insulation’s R2.2 Wall batt has been developed specifically for internal wall and inter-tenancy applications where reliable acoustic infill insulation is required. The product can be used as an alternative to the traditional 11kg infill insulation specified in GIB inter-tenancy wall systems, offering architects and builders another option when designing separating walls in multi-unit developments.

The insulation is manufactured using Knauf Insulation’s ECOSE® Technology, which replaces traditional petrochemical binders with a plant-based binder that is free from added formaldehyde. The result is a product that is soft to handle and easier to install while meeting modern material transparency expectations, including Declare Red List Free certification.

During manufacture the insulation is also silicone treated to improve moisture resistance, supporting durability within internal wall assemblies.

Designed for architects, specifiers and installers, the R2.2 Wall batt is suited to projects where consistent acoustic performance and straightforward installation are key considerations. The product is manufactured by Knauf Insulation and distributed in New Zealand through CARTERS Building Supplies.
