House of the Year 2025 showcases the best of New Zealand building

Each year, Master Builders celebrates the craftsmanship, innovation, and professionalism that define the country’s residential construction sector.

The 2025 House of the Year awards have once again brought together the best examples of New Zealand homebuilding — with the Top 100 homes now announced.

Spanning every region and a broad range of budgets, this year’s finalists include everything from compact urban dwellings to large architectural builds. Each project demonstrates the precision, care, and quality that Master Builders members are known for.

Master Builders CEO Ankit Sharma said the calibre of entries continues to impress:

“Every year the bar gets higher. These awards celebrate the craftsmanship, dedication, and quality our members bring to building homes that New Zealand families are proud of.”

A Benchmark for Industry

Nearly 300 homes were entered in the 2025 competition, highlighting the scale and diversity of New Zealand’s building talent. Master Builders House of the Year is not just a competition but a benchmark — setting standards that inspire both peers and clients.

For Master Builders, the awards reinforce the organisation’s role in championing excellence, sustainability, and innovation across all levels of the residential construction industry. From sustainable design and smart use of materials to outstanding workmanship, each category showcases what can be achieved when skill and ambition align.

The Top 100 homes now move on to the national judging round, culminating in the 2025 National Gala Awards in Christchurch on 22 November. Supreme =Award winners — including House of the Year Over $1 Million, Under $1 Million, and Renovation of the Year — will be announced, alongside specialist categories such as the Mitre 10 Trade Craftsmanship Award, Kitchen Excellence, Outdoor Living Excellence, and the APL Environmental & Sustainable Excellence Award.

The breadth of these awards reflects an evolving industry — one that values design integrity, environmental responsibility, and the lived experience of every homeowner.
