Eurotray® Angle Seam is both a popular roofing profile and an exceptional wall cladding solution. It can be run vertically or horizontally and can also be concave or curved. And it can be specified to a minimum pitch of 5 degrees.
Metal roofs have been used throughout history for durability and strength. The Romans used copper as a roof covering for the Pantheon and European medieval architecture often featured alloyed metal roofs.
Modern standing seam roofs as we know them were developed in the 1960s and many options are still available today. The term ‘standing seam’ comes from the raised connection between the metal panels. Seams are created by folding and crimping the edges between the panels – these run vertically and, in addition to adding strength to the roof, they channel water off the roof.
This profile is inspired by some of the oldest and grandest buildings in Europe to match our most contemporary homes. And importantly, Eurotray® is designed to withstand the harshest of New Zealand’s climate without compromising on premium aesthetics.
A top example of Eurotray® Angle Seam in action is 76 Hereford Street. Housing Fat Eddies Bar and a number of restaurants, this striking new commercial building is a wonderful example of how the post-quake rebuild is bringing architectural innovation to Christchurch. The building’s distinctive vertical cladding is multi- width Eurotray® Angle Seam cladding in Lignite colour, supplied by Dimond Roofing.
The original plans for Fat Eddies specified copper cladding, but it was too expensive and an eco-risk. Dimond® Roofing stepped in with the ideal alternate cladding solution.
Another stunning example is the Dravitzki Brown Architecture designed Ebbinge House at Speargrass Flat, Arrowtown, in what is known locally as ‘the Golden Triangle’, with views of Coronet Peak.
Dravitzki Brown chose to wrap a large proportion of the house in Dimond’s Eurotray Angle Seam profile due to its durability, low maintenance and because it can be seamlessly transitioned from roof to walls to give the look of ‘a single, pure form’.
That philosophy is best illustrated on the northern face of the home, where the roof flows down to the walls with the seams of the Eurotray® lining up beautifully with the frames of the recessed windows and doors.
Dravitzki Brown said that the assurance of having certified installers capable of achieving flawless detailing was a key reason for specifying the product.
To maintain the uncluttered look, internal membrane gutters have been employed – the only evidence of which is a narrow slot towards the bottom of the roof along almost its entire length. The flashings were made slightly bigger so as to conceal the membrane from view and minimise the visual impact of the gutter.
Eurotray® Angle Seam is manufactured by Dimond in Auckland, Christchurch and Invercargill and installed by a preferred installer newtork for quality assurance. It is available in a range of material options available, from unpainted zinc, copper, and aluminium, to pre-painted steel that carries a 15-year warranty.
